Last week I wrote about the Edinburgh Remakery, and how they are trying to foster a culture of repair. It’s one of the most shared posts I’ve ever written, and there’s clearly a real interest in this whole idea. Lots of you have been in touch to share similar projects, including this one from Sweden. ReTuna Återbruksgalleria is a mall dedicated entirely to repaired and upcycled goods. It combines a traditional municipal recycling centre with...

An IT company has joined forces with a green technology firm to develop wind turbines which attach to lamp-posts. The NVT Group’s partnership with Own Energy Solutions is set to create 25 jobs over the next 12 months which it hopes will rise to about 300 within three years. The scheme harvests wind using a small wind turbine and inverter system. As a result, metered, clean energy could be fed directly into the National Grid....

Samsung has finally decided to give in. Samsung is a South Korean multinational conglomerate headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul. Over the next three decades, the group diversified into areas including food processing, textiles, insurance, securities and retail. Since 1990, Samsung has increasingly globalized its activities and electronics; in particular, its mobile phones and semiconductors have become its most important source of income. Remember when we did this… Greenpeace activists create satirical scenes to show the explosion of...

In the near future, taking a dip in the ocean could be more like thrashing in the ball pit at McDonald’s. A conservative estimate puts more than 5 trillion pieces of plastic in the seas, degrading into ever-smaller fragments but never decomposing and fatally clogging the guts of birds, whales, and many other creatures who mistake it for food. Now Londoners out taking a stroll can get a nauseating reminder of the ravages of oceanic...

In one of his first major decisions as Environmental Protection Agency administrator, Scott Pruitt sided with the pesticide lobby over scientists in an eleventh-hour decision to abort the agency’s proposal to ban chlorpyrifos – an insecticide that at small doses can harm children’s brains and nervous systems – from use on food crops. Pruitt and the Trump administration’s decision ignored overwhelming evidence that even small amounts of chlorpyrifos can damage parts of the brain that...

California forges ahead with clean cars rules! Implementing this strategy is not new in the U.S. New Jersey has also implemented this clean cars rules to combat global warming. Climate scientists say around 80 to 90 percent of fuel consumption and emissions of air pollution and greenhouse gasses are driving global warming. What do you see when you picture a scientist? Is it a white man in a lab coat? This portrait will smash that stereotype to bits. Everywhere you look, odds appear stacked against women in STEM. Young male scientists receive up to twice as much funding as their female counterparts in Boston’s biomedical research institutions, a global research hub. Only 30% of the world’s researchers are women, and women hold fewer than 25% of STEM jobs...
